Roost to Ridge Loop

Walkabout Wednesday Standard Hike, October 12, 2022
Mt. Laguna
Start time:  8:30AM

[Mission Valley carpool, if there is one, departs at 7:30AM. In case no one else shows up at the carpool meeting place, you should be prepared to drive yourself.]

Today’s hike is a 10.5 mile loop with 1,000’ elevation gain. Beginning at Red Tailed Roost in Mt. Laguna, we will cut through Burnt Rancheria Campground to connect with the Desert View & Pacific Crest trails, take the PCT north 5 miles to the cutoff to Lightning Ridge, then take the Lightning Ridge Trail down to Big Laguna Trail and make our way over to and up Escondido Ravine back to Red Tailed Roost. Bring snack, lunch, water and footwear with good ankle support as several of the trails are rocky. Forecast for Mt. Laguna on Wednesday is ðŸŒž with a high of 70. Text or call Mike L at 858-922-0738 with questions.

Directions: Take I-8 East to Sunrise Highway. Turn left after exiting and drive to Red Tailed Roost, located near mile marker 22.5 & across the road from the Mt. Laguna Volunteer Fire Station. Adventure Pass or equivalent required for parking. [Although there are no toilet facilities at the Roost, you will pass several porta-potties on Sunrise Highway that are usually stocked with toilet paper — though you may want to bring your own just in case!]
