Walkabout Wednesday Standard Hike, Oct 26, 2022

CUYAMACA LOOP MILK RANCH RD / AZALEA GLEN to STONEWALL PEAK
OCTOBER 26, 2022, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park
Hike starts at 8:30 am

You must be fully COVID vaccinated to come on this hike.

 

Mission Valley carpool, if there is one, departs at 7:30 AM. In case no one else shows up at the carpool place, you should be prepared to drive yourself.

Today’s hike is 9.5 miles with beautiful views of the mountains, park, grasslands, dense pine forests, and shaded streams. Beginning at the Trout Pond trailhead parking lot in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, we will start by hiking on Milk Ranch Rd across Hwy. 79 to Conejos Trail and Azalea Glen Loop to Paso Picacho Camp Day Use Parking Area. From there we will cross Hwy 79 and take the Stonewall Peak Trail to the top of Stonewall Peak (850 ft. elevation gain.) We will follow the  Stonewall Peak Trail to Los Caballeros back to the parking area. Pack snack, lunch, sunscreen, and water. The forecast for Wednesday, October 26, 2022, is sunny with a high of 61, after a morning low of 45. Hiking poles are recommended especially for Azalea Glen Trail.

Directions:  Take I-8 East to Highway 79 [exit 40] to the Trout Pond parking area across the road from Milk Ranch Road at mile 13.4 miles from I-8 (10.7 mile on Hwy 79.)
