SAN ELIJO LAGOON WITH ANNIE’S CANYON TRAIL: 8.5 MILES, 2.5 PACE
The hike will leave the trailhead at 8:00 am
Mission Valley carpool, if there is one, departs at 7:15 am
You must be fully vaccinated to join this hike.
Hike begins at the Rancho Santa Fe end of the San Elijo Lagoon trail. The trail head is on the westside of El Camino Real about 50 yards before the sharp 90 degree turn that becomes La Orilla in Solana Beach. From I-5 take the Lomas Santa Fe exit east.
We will hike about a mile on the La Orilla trail and then exit to head northwest on an irregular 2.5-mile loop along the Escondido Creek flood plain. Returning to the La Orilla trail we will proceed to explore Angie’s Canyon after passing under the new I-5 bridge. For those who haven’t experienced Annie’s Canyon, you will love it. We then continue past the end of the cul de sac of North Rios to a finger of land in the middle of the San Elijo Lagoon where we will stop for a snack. We then return to the RSF trail head. The hike is mostly flat with a couple of bumps. Total hike is about 8.5 miles.
No porta-potties. Bring sufficient water since it can be warm and humid when the sun comes out.
