WALKABOUT WILDERNESS HIKE – LITE  –  SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2022

The hike will start at 9:00 am.  We will be doing the Oakzanita Peak Hike. We will meet at the East Mesa Trailhead (not to be confused with the Oakzanita Peak Trailhead sign).  It will be a loop of between 8 and 9 miles with an elevation gain/loss of 1200′.  We will take the Lower Descanso Creek trail to a short portion of the East Mesa Fire Road and over to the Upper Descanso Creek Trail. We will go up to Oakzanita Peak, probably have a nutrition break up there, then go back down and follow the Oakzanita Trail to the East Mesa Fire Road and head back to the cars.

Bring a snack, lunch and water.  Boots are recommended and so are hiking poles.  Be prepared for windy weather.

DIRECTIONS – I-8 East, exit on 79 and head north. Go for about 7 or 8 miles until you see the East Mesa (Cuyamaca Rancho State Park) sign on the right. Park there.  Do not confuse it with the Oakzanita Peak sign. You need to keep going a little further. No facilities.
