Walkabout Wilderness Wednesday Standard Hike May 24, 2023

Today’s hike, all on trail, will start at mile marker 19.1 on Sunrise Highway (SR-1)  From Big Laguna Trail, we will hike up Chico Ravine to Los Gatos Ravine, then Agua Dulce Road and Escondido Ravine before heading up to Redtail Roost  We will then take the northern trail out of Redtail Roost back to Escondido Ravine then back Kemp Spur  to the meadow.

Distance is a bit over 10 miles with an elevation gain of about 1300 feet.   Sorry, but the trails are not all on GAIA, so I did my best to come up with an estimate.  The trail down from Redtail Roost can be a bit rocky or pinecone strewn.    There are some great dining locations, but they might not be located when the group needs to stop.  So we will play snack and lunch by ear (or foot, or back, or . . .)

Pack snack, lunch and water. There is no water on the trail.  Forecast is sunny.  It will be about 60 degrees when we start with a high of 67.

Make sure that you review our information in the wilderness section of the Walkabout-int.org newsletter.
