WEDNESDAY WILDERNESS HIKE, Standard Hike, September 21st, 2022.
Red Tailed Roost Loop Hike in the Laguna mountains.
Hike begins at Red Tail Roost Volunteer Center parking lot at 8.30am.
It is between Mile Post 22.5 and 23 across from San Diego County Fire Station 49 at 10385 Sunrise Hwy, Mt Laguna, CA 91948.
Adventure / parking pass required.
Distance of 10 miles, a total elevation gain of around 900 ft, and a minimum average moving pace of 2.5 miles per hour.
You must be fully COVID vaccinated to come on this hike.
Mission Valley carpool, if there is one, departs at 7:30 AM. In case no one else shows up at the carpool place, you should be prepared to drive yourself.
The hike starts by going right on Red Tail Roost Trail to Escondido Ravine Rd., and then connecting with the Big Laguna Trail to cross Sunrise Highway. At the junction with the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT.) we go south for about 3.5 miles before taking Thing Valley Rd. which will return us to Red Tail Roost parking area. The Desert View picnic area will probably be a stopping point.

Directions: Take I-8 East to Sunrise Highway. Turn left after exiting and drive to Red Tailed Roost, located near mile marker 22.5 & across the highway from the Mt. Laguna Volunteer Fire Station.
