PCT HIKE: HAUSER CANYON TO BOULDER OAKS
***RSVP***IF YOU ARE GOING; THIS IS A CAR SHUTTLE INVOLVED HIKE
Mission Valley carpool: if there is one, departs at 7:00 AM
Here is the chance for your second stage of hiking the whole 2,650 mile PCT after the Run from the Border Hike last month. This approximately 11 mile hike starts at Hauser Canyon, climbs 1000 feet of switchbacks over 1.5 miles and then follows an undulating trail to Lake Morena at 4.6 miles. From Lake Morena it is a relatively easy hike of 6 miles to Boulder Oaks Campground. We may need to proceed through shallow water at the Cotton Creek crossing. Total elevation gain for this hike is about 2,000 feet.
We will all meet up at the Buckman Springs Rest Area at Exit 51, the Buckman Springs Road off ramp from I-8. Be prepared to leave the Rest Area at 8:30 AM to shuttle the cars between the finish at Boulder Oaks Campground and the start at Hauser Canyon.
Pack snack, lunch, and water. Forecast is mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 50’s and lows in the mid 30’s with a breeze picking up in the afternoon. Please be prepared to either shuttle other hikers in your car or to be shuttled on this hike. The road in and out of Hauser Canyon is a somewhat bumpy dirt road. Any cars left at the Campground require an Adventure Pass or a fee paid.
