WEDNESDAY WILDERNESS STANDARD HIKE, DECEMBER 28, 2022

MORENA PCT AND RESERVOIR, Lake Morena County Park
Meet time: 8:20 A.M. at Buckman Springs Rest Area 
Hike starts promptly at 8:45 A.M.
Mission Valley carpool, if there is one, departs at 7:20 A.M. In case no one else shows up at the carpool place, you should be prepared to drive yourself.

 

You must be fully COVID vaccinated to come on this hike.

 

Today’s hike is about 9 miles. Beginning at the PCT trailhead just outside of the Lake Morena County Park, we will walk 3 miles to the Morena Butte Trailhead. After a short break, we will walk back about a quarter of a mile and take the Morena Reservoir trail north. From there we will connect to a road and continue to the dam area. Heading back on a road for about 0.6 mile, we will walk for about a mile to the PCT to hike back to the parking lot. The forecast for Wednesday is a chance of showers (50%) otherwise mostly cloudy with a high near 52 Check email Wednesday morning by 6AM to see if hike is on or if it is canceled.

Directions:  We will meet at 8:40AM in the Buckman Springs Rest Area, Exit 51 Buckman Springs Road, off I-8 and caravan/carpool to the trailhead from there. Leaving the Rest Stop, turn left onto Buckman Springs Road and continue for approximately 5.3 miles. Turn right onto Oak Drive. After approximately 1.6 miles, make a slight right onto Lake Morena Drive. Follow Lake Morena Drive for .4 miles to the intersection of Lake Morena Drive and Lake Shore Drive, just before the entrance to Lake Morena County Park. You’ll find a large dirt lot on the left side of this intersection, park there.
