WEDNESDAY WILDERNESS STANDARD HIKE, MARCH 2, 2022

CUYAMACA RANCHO STATE PARK EAST MESA / WEST MESA
10 miles, 2.5 pace, Elevation gain 1,700 ft.
Hike starts promptly at 8:30 AM.
You must be fully COVID vaccinated to come on this hike.Mission Valley carpool, if there is one, departs at 7:35 AM. In case no one else shows up at the carpool place, you should be prepared to drive yourself.
Today’s hike is 10+ miles with 1,700 elevation gain. We’ll start hiking on the East Mesa Fire Road to Oak Trail, to Harvey Moore Trail, that will connect to the Sweetwater River Parking area. From there we’ll cross the river and Hwy. 79 to the West Side Trail to Monument Trail and hike uphill for 1.7 miles to the Airplane Monument. After leaving the monument, The West Mesa Trail continues uphill for about a mile and intersects with Arroyo Seco Trail with beautiful views to the west. From there we’ll hike down the Arroyo Seco and Fox Trails to Arroyo Seco Primitive Campground and Arroyo Seco Fire Road. We’ll walk down Arroyo Seco Fire Road until it connects with the West Side Trail and then cross back over to the Sweetwater River Parking Area. We’ll hike back on the East Side Trail for 1.2 miles to our vehicles.
