Wednesday Wilderness Standard Hike, January 11, 2023
“Wet Day Hike”
10 miles, 2.5 pace, elevation gain ~ 1000 ft.
We will take advice from now until very early Wednesday morning about the practicality of this hike due
to the heavy rain expected Tuesday. If the hike is ON, we will hike mostly on fire roads as it will be wet
underfoot and possibly slippery. Bring poles!
Please CHECK YOUR EMAIL AT 6 AM WEDNESDAY FOR PRIOR CANCELLATION DUE TO RAIN. If there is no
cancellation, the hike is ON.
9 AM start time. No Mission Valley carpool.
You must be fully COVID vaccinated to come on this hike.
This hike takes us from the East Mesa Trailhead in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park to the Green Valley
Campground following the East Side Trail. Then we will take the Falls Fire Road past Green Vally Falls to
the California Hiking and Riding Trail (South Boundary Fire Road). Going north, we will join the Arroyo
Seco Fire Road, and then we will climb the Arroyo Seco trail with its fantastic mountain views. We will
descend on the Airplane Monument Trail, picking up the Arroyo Seco trail going south to the Green
Valley Campground and back to the East Mesa Trailhead via the East Side Trail.
Pack a snack, lunch, and at least 2 L of water. Forecast is for a high in the mid-50’s with an 8% chance of
rain. Waterproof yourself!
First time hikers must contact a leader (below) before joining the hike. Make sure you review our
information in the Wilderness section of the Walkabout-int.org newsletter. www.Walkabout-
Directions: From I-8 West, take Highway 79 north to Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. The East Mesa
Parking area is about a half mile past the park entry (beyond the Oakzanita parking area and before the
Green Valley Campground).
