WEDNESDAY WILDERNESS STANDARD HIKE, JANUARY 25, 2023
Loop hike that starts at Padro Fages Monument, then CRHT to PCT, La Cima Trail to Soapstone Grade, back to CRHT ending at Pedro Fages Monument.
10 miles, 2.5 pace, Elevation gain 1,000 ft.
8:45 AM start time.
You must be fully COVID vaccinated to come on this hike.
Mission Valley carpool, if there is one, departs at 7:30 AM. In case no one else shows up at the carpool place, you should be prepared to drive yourself.
Today’s hike, all on trail, will start at the Pedro Fages Monument on Sunrise Highway. It can be reached from Hwy 79 past Lake Cuyamaca to Sunrise Hwy, or by Sunrise Hwy off Hwy 8 driving all the way past Sunrise Trailhead almost to the end.
This is a loop hike that is in both Anza-Borrego Desert State Park(ABDSP) Cuyamaca Rancho State Park(CRSP) We’ll start hiking on the California Riding and Hiking Trail (CRHT) from Fages Monument to the PCT and then head south on the PCT to Sunrise Trailhead. From Sunrise TH we’ll hike on La Cima Trail to Soapstone Grade that connects to CRHT. We’ll end by hiking on CRHT back to our vehicles at the monument.
Distance 10 miles with a total elevation gain of around 1000 ft. and an average moving pace of 2.5 miles per hour. The hike will leave the trailhead promptly at 8:45AM
Pack snack, lunch, and water. Forecast is 51 for the high after a low of 37. This area can be windy and there is very little shade. Hiking poles are recommended.
